Getting a smart meter

21 December 2020 - You may have been offered a smart meter by Utility Warehouse and decided against it initially. You may have read about them and decided that you now want one. Whatever your reason, it’s easy to get a smart meter with UW.

All you need to do is visit your account and:

- Select Energy service
- Then select "Book an appointment"

You’ll be asked a few questions about your home, and your meters, and then you can select a smart meter appointment time and date that works for you. UW will then send an engineer to visit you on your chosen day at your chosen time and they’ll carry out the upgrade. The upgrade can take around two hours. 

Alternatively, if you’re having trouble with booking online or you can’t see the "Book an appointment" option, then just give us a call on 0333 358 0175 and we can get this booked in for you. 

 

Appointment day 

UW engineers will need access to the main fuse switch and internal connections, so you’ll need to have someone home for the whole appointment time. It doesn’t have to be the account holder but they will need to be 18+. 

During the installation, you will lose access to gas and electricity for a short period and you may lose access to the internet, too.

Our engineer will also make sure they are following all relevant health and safety rules, as well as social distancing measures that may be in place when they visit your property.  

 

After your appointment 

Once your meter has been installed, you should see the display light up with information about your energy usage. This will automatically start being shared with UW and you can track your usage on your smart meter display automatically.

If you have any problems with your meter, or it doesn’t work as it should, you should contact us at the earliest opportunity on 0333 777 0777. We’ll take a look at the issue and will do what we can to fix it or replace the meter.
