8 March 2021 - The last year has shown that a reliable broadband service is more important than ever. As we continue to work from home, we are using our broadband connections for work and play and we really feel the pressure if we have an unreliable connection.
At UW, we recognised this and have worked hard to improve our broadband infrastructure. Gone are the days of dial-up modems and clunky boxes. We’ve ushered in a new era of technology, with Full Fibre Broadband for our customers.
Throughout 2020, we were trialling this new technology to ensure that it worked for us as a business and our entire customer base. And in December 2020, we decided it was time to move to the next phase of our Full Fibre roll-out. Fibre optic broadband technology has been around for some time and most broadband operations utilise it in some way. But the difference between the legacy technology and this new technology is that this is Fibre To The Premises (FTTP).
Instead of using fibre cables in the exchange, and copper cables to deliver the broadband to the property, this new system harnesses fibre optic technology across the board - so the broadband connection is delivered to your property via these cables, ensuring a speedier connection for all. And with more of us at home, relying on our internet connection for just about everything, this can only be good!
As full fibre rolls out across the UK, interested customers are able to check their eligibility and see what broadband deals we offer. The minimum speed we guarantee is 50Mbps download speed, but most customers will see a quicker speed than this. Our packages start at £40 per month with no connection fee but customers can save more on their bills by taking out more services with UW.
