With more people using their phone to pay for transactions, UW customers with an Android phone can rack-up savings even when they have left their cashback card at home. With phone payments quicker than card payments, this means customers are also saving time while earning cashback.

Card holders can use Google Pay both online and offline and with Android’s in-built security measures, payments come with enhanced security. With more than £500m spent on UW cards in the past year, this is a welcome boost for those customers earning cashback and making savings on their monthly utility bills.  

Robyn Hyde, Customer Director at Utility Warehouse, said: “Adding Google Pay is a great step forward for our Cashback Card customers. They are already making substantial savings on their yearly utility bills - with the average cardholder saving £421* a year with their card. With this update, they’ll be able to save time on their transactions, too. This means our customers can spend even when their card is at home and add to the 10% of transactions in the UK that are made using a digital wallet.’

More than 62,500 additional households switched to UW in the first 6 months of FY24, representing an annualised growth rate of over 14%. With more than 950,000 households taking services from UW, the business is expected to pass the one million customer milestone during the current financial year.

*Calculated using the average cashback of £129.68 earned between 6/3/22 and 25/5/22 by the top 10% of active account holders (those who used their card at least once a week during the same period) which has been annualised to give an average yearly cashback earned figure of £421.
