Energy efficiency tips for your boiler

< Back to Newsroom

29 April 2021 - When was the last time you thought about your boiler? You probably haven’t actively thought about it for weeks. Especially now as the weather is warming up, your boiler probably isn’t front of your mind.

At Utility Warehouse, we offer products that look out for your boiler so you don’t have to. With things like boiler cover available, you can have peace of mind and you can be safe in the knowledge that should something happen to your boiler, we’ll be on hand to help you get things back in working order.

When you are back up and running with a new and improved boiler, there’s certain things you can do to help keep your boiler running as efficiently as possible:

Annual service

Getting a regular service on your boiler will keep it in good working order. For the long term health of your boiler, this is crucial as a service and regular checks will allow engineers to spot minor problems and catch them before they become major problems. It’ll also help stop your boiler from breaking down during the cold winter months.

Bleed your radiators

Bleeding radiators may feel like a pointless practice but in reality, this is crucial to improving your radiators efficiency and in turn, your boilers. To check if you need to bleed your radiators, fire up your heating and see if any of them are slow to warm up or if any of them have cold spots toward the top. If so, they will need to be bled. Bleeding them should help lead to cheaper bills as well as a more efficient heating system.

Keep it clean

Your boiler may sit locked away in a cupboard or hidden away in your kitchen, only to be looked at when you are flicking the heating on. But keeping your boiler clean will pay off in the long run. Keeping the external casing of your boiler clean will help prevent its tubes and pipes from getting clogged up. In turn, the clogging of these pipes will impact performance and cause higher heating bills.

Run your heating regularly

You probably don’t ever think about turning your heating on in the summer but leaving your boiler off for long periods of time can actually cause your boiler to break down. It’s bizarre to say turn your heating on in the summer but doing so for even a short period of time once a week will keep your boiler running.

Insulate your pipes

Insulation is a great way to help keep your boiler working efficiently while also helping you save on your bills as you heat your home. Using easy to install foam tubes on your boilers pipes will help reduce heat loss and keep your water hotter for longer.
