Is it worth getting an electric vehicle tariff?

If you’ve got an electric car and you tend to charge it at home, then the EV tariff is for you. If you’re someone who charges their car on the road or during peak hours, then you might get less of a benefit from the rates.

Is my peak rate higher on this tariff to offset the cheaper off-peak rate?

Our EV tariff is a two-rate tariff that gives you cheaper electricity overnight during off-peak hours. This means you can charge your car and take advantage of lower priced electricity during off-peak hours.

And we’ve kept our EV peak rates as close as possible to our standard variable electricity rates, to give you the best value.

Does this tariff work with Economy 7?

If you’re currently on an Economy 7 tariff, you’ll be able to switch to our EV tariff as long as you have a working smart meter.

Does this tariff work with solar panels?

Yes, we fit smart meters for customers with solar panels and micro generation equipment in their home. If you have a smart meter installed at your property you’ll be able to switch to our EV tariff.

Why do I need a electricity smart meter to sign up?

A smart meter tells us exactly when you’re using your electricity. We need to know how much energy you’re using during the day and during the cheaper night-time hours so we can give you an accurate bill.

Without an electricity smart meter, you won’t be able to get the lower unit rate at night.

Do I need a gas smart meter to sign up?

No, you don't need a gas meter, only a working electricity smart meter.

What happens if I move home while I’m on this EV tariff?

You’ll need to notify us that you’re moving. Once you’re in your new home, get back in touch with us and we can easily switch you back to this tariff.

What happens if I sign up but its not possible to install a smart meter in my home?

Unfortunately, if you don’t have a working smart meter, you won’t be able to take this EV tariff.

How do I sign up for this EV tariff?

Join UW via our ‘Get a quote’ button. Choose your UW bundle - remember the more services you take the cheaper your rate. We will initially put you onto our standard variable tariff. Once you’ve switched over, we’ll invite you to join our EV tariff.
You need to provide us with some details, for example your car registration number. Once we’ve verified your details we give you your personal quote. If you’re happy, we’ll then switch you over.

I’m an existing customer, How do I sign up for this EV tariff?

If you’re an existing energy customer, please call us on 0333 777 3236. We’ll be able to provide your with your new quote and arrange to get you switched over.

Please note, if you’re on a fixed energy tariff, you can still switch over but you may have to pay an exit fee.
