What does Contents Insurance cover?

Our contents insurance looks after the items that move you – and move with you.

What’s not covered?

While our Home Insurance (Buildings and Contents) includes all the essentials, there are some things that it doesn’t cover:

  • Wear and tear 

  • Any loss, damage, or liability caused deliberately

  • Anything that’s happened gradually over time

  • Damage caused before your policy start date

  • Damage caused by lack of maintenance or renovation

  • Damage resulting from pests 

  • Damage resulting from your home being unoccupied for over 60 days in a row

Who is eligible for UW Home Insurance?

UW Home Insurance or house insurance is only available to our existing customers who have an established Direct Debit set up. It’s another perk of being a UW customer.

What exactly is this ‘panel of insurers’?

We work with a panel of great insurers to provide our customers with the same great UW Home Insurance cover every year. When you get a quote, as well as at renewal, each of our insurers will provide a price based on your circumstances and we select the best.

Will I get the same cover at Home Insurance renewal?

Yes, your cover levels and limits stay the same. 

So, unless you’ve specifically requested any changes to your policy, we’ll get you a quote for the exact same level of cover as the previous year. If anything changes, we’ll notify you in writing.

Does the price go up after one year?

We give you the best price for Home Insurance from our panel of insurers every year. This means you get a competitive rate at the start, and every year.

How is my Home Insurance premium calculated?

When you build your quote, we’ll ask you questions to find out about your home and how much cover you need. Your answers will affect the price of your insurance. Some of these factors include:

  • Where you live – The location of your property may cause your premium to increase, as some areas could be at a higher risk of extreme weather conditions, crime, and more.

  • Your property – The age, size, and build of your property can also affect the price of your Home Insurance. A larger building made from more expensive materials could be more costly to repair, which may be reflected in your premium.

  • Security – If you have robust security measures in place at your home, it could decrease your cover cost.

  • Your lifestyle – The number of people living in your property and whether you’re away from home for periods of time can impact how your premium is calculated.

Will my policy be on my UW bill?

Yes! As part of our one-bill promise, your Home Insurance payments will be added to your monthly bill into handy monthly payments.

What can invalidate house insurance?

Please be aware that, in some cases, your lifestyle and/or actions can invalidate your home insurance. Some of these factors include:

  • Leaving your property unoccupied for prolonged periods of time

  • Underinsuring your property

  • Not making your insurer aware of any changes

  • Taking on renovation work without letting your insurer know

What is legal cover on Home Insurance?

If something goes wrong, it’s not always as simple as calling on your insurance provider for repairs. In some situations, you might need to take legal action to ensure you get your compensation.

Legal cover is an add-on to our comprehensive Home Insurance product, so we can help to cover the cost of any legal expenses or provide legal representation if you’re pursuing a dispute. Why has my underwriting insurer changed?

We work with a panel of insurers who all provide the same great UW Home Insurance cover. Every year, we ask them to provide their best price for your coverage and select the insurer that comes in the lowest. This means you get the same great cover, year after year, and always at a competitive price.

How do I make a claim?

As we work with a panel of insurers, your first port of call is to refer to Page 1 of your Policy Schedule. There, you’ll find the number to call to get started with your claim.

Who is responsible for paying for Buildings Insurance on a rented property?

In a rented property, the property owner or landlord is usually responsible for arranging the Buildings Insurance.

What happens if I move house?

If you’re moving to a new property, it’s essential that you let us know your new address and when you’ll be moving in as soon as possible.
