Introducing 4G and Wi-Fi Calling with UW 

Over the past year, we relied on our phones more than ever to stay in touch with loved ones – imagine doing lockdown without video calls! 

While our customers already benefit from access to a leading mobile network, they’ll now be able to experience even better call quality and coverage with the launch of 4G Calling and Wi-Fi Calling. Here’s how they work…

4G Calling

With 4G Calling (also known as ‘VoLTE’), customers can make voice calls over the 4G network instead of the older 2G or 3G network. 4G has much faster speeds than 2G and 3G, which means calls connect more quickly and sound even clearer. That means less ‘Sorry, I didn’t quite catch that...’ and more high quality phone conversations.

Wi-Fi Calling

While the network we use covers 99% of the UK population, we know there are still times when people might experience poor signal – like during a remote beach holiday with the family or in a particular room at home. With Wi-Fi Calling, customers can continue to make calls and send texts even in areas where there is no signal. All they need is to be connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Both 4G Calling and Wi-Fi Calling are included with all UW mobile SIM plans at no extra cost. The only thing that’s needed to use them is a compatible phone and SIM. 

All new customers will be able to use 4G Calling and Wi-Fi Calling from today, while existing UW mobile customers will be enabled at a later date.
