Utility Warehouse appoints David Walter as new CCO

15 March 2022 - Utility Warehouse (UW), the UK’s only multiservice provider, has announced the appointment of David Walter as new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) effective May-2022. David joins UW from OVO, where he was VP of Commercial.

David joins the business at a crucial time, with the company recently announcing that Stuart Burnett, formerly Chief Operating Officer, would join Andrew Lindsay as Co-CEO of the business. Now David comes in to bolster the company’s leadership team and to support the business through an exciting period of growth.

David has a wealth of experience across the energy and telecoms industries, having worked for OVO, SSE, and Centrica in a broad range of Commercial and General Management roles.

His most recent role took him to OVO as part of their acquisition of SSE’s retail business, SSE Energy Services, in January 2020.  As well as working on the integration of multiple teams, David also led the development of a commercial strategy to improve retention and increase customer margins while migrating customers off legacy brands and platforms.

Prior to OVO, David was Product Director at SSE where he ran two businesses end to end. He oversaw the Home Services and the Broadband arms of the business, driving growth strategy, owning the operating model, delivering for customers and managing the P&L.

It was here that David learnt the importance of bundling and moved the business from a position of zero bundle sales to leading with bundles in the majority of sales and renewal channels, building customer lifetime value in the process.

And that experience will be perfect for his new role at UW, where change, transformation and growth are all key. As the energy crisis and cost of living crisis continue to unfold, UW is offering customers a genuine way for households to save money and time on their bills.

David said: ‘The more I find out about UW, the more excited I become. The business is already on a journey of change and growth. My previous roles have elements that lend themselves perfectly to the UW model. I’m excited to bring a growth mindset to the business and work closely with the existing teams to take UW forward. I’m also excited about working closely with both Andrew and Stuart. In my role at SSE, I worked with two co-MDs and it was a dynamic I enjoyed and can’t wait to start again at UW.’

Stuart Burnett, Co-CEO at Utility Warehouse, said: ‘David’s pedigree and experience made him the perfect candidate for us. He’s worked across the industry at some of the most recognisable names and brands and the work he’s done in these places makes him a natural fit for the CCO role here. Whilst UK households are set for an incredibly challenging period, UW is perfectly positioned to help relieve some of these financial pressures and to offer consumers a better way of doing utilities. And David will help us on that path.’

Utility Warehouse has over 660,000 customers and is based in North London. The company offers customers the chance to bundle all their home services into one monthly bill. By doing this, they access discounts on their energy bill and other services. They are also able to take advantage of things like the UW Cashback Card, earning them money back off their bill for spending in retailers all over the UK.
