15% relying on cashback to ease January bills
London, 6th January 2025: Hard-pressed Brits are losing out on billions of pounds a year in potential savings by not using cashback cards for their everyday shopping, new research from Utility Warehouse reveals today.
The survey of 2,000 adults found that nearly half of UK shoppers (44%) are missing out on this simple way to stretch their budgets further — despite battling rising living costs and financial pressures.
In total, Brits left almost £3 billion on the table last year—money that could have gone back into their pockets for groceries, gifts and family days out.
Savvy shoppers who embraced cashback are already starting 2025 on a stronger financial footing. Around 15% say the rewards they earned in 2024 will help to tackle January bills, while just over a quarter (26%) plan to rely on cashback to cover everyday essentials throughout the year.
And it’s not just about easing immediate financial stress—nearly one in five (18%) have already earmarked their cashback savings to fund Christmas 2025. Meanwhile, 15% are setting their earnings aside for little luxuries and well-deserved treats.
On average, the research shows cashback collectors earn nearly £120 a year. The highest earning Utility Warehouse Cashback Card holders can earn significantly more - each collecting over £457 annually.
David Walter, Chief Growth Officer at Utility Warehouse, said: “When costs are rising for many households, cashback can make a real difference. Yet plenty of people still don’t have a cashback card and so they’re missing out on big savings. That’s why it’s so important to use a cashback card—everytime you go shopping. It’s a straightforward and impactful way to make your money go further and to kick off the New Year with greater financial stability.”
