What is Full Fibre broadband?

Full Fibre, or Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), is revolutionising the world of broadband.

Traditional Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) broadband transmits data to a cabinet on your street, and old copper cables take it the rest of the way to your home. With FTTP, fibre cables send internet data directly to your home. With Full Fibre, you’ll get lightning-fast broadband speeds and a more reliable connection, and you won’t have to share any bandwidth with your neighbours.

As one of the quickest internet options available today, Full Fibre is being rolled out across the UK, and is slowly phasing out FTTC broadband.

Get the UK’s fastest and most reliable broadband technology with our Full Fibre broadband.

Whether you’re upgrading from regular broadband or switching from another provider to UW, it couldn't be easier. You'll keep your existing telephone number; if you don’t have a telephone line, we can install one. Start your switch today.

If you’ve not had Full Fibre at your property before, an engineer will need to visit. The installation will then take around three hours. If you already have Full Fibre at your property with another provider, we can switch you to UW remotely.

In certain areas only Full Fibre is available. If Full Fibre isn’t available at a property just yet, existing copper-based connections such as Standard, Ultra and Ultra Plus are still available with UW. These same options will be available to anyone signing up for a new contract, switching or upgrading.

No  – there won’t be any interruption to your service.

If you've not had Full Fibre before then an engineer will need to install special equipment / a new modem.

Full Fibre is a data-only product and doesn’t carry calls by itself. If you use an alarm or medical dialer that’s reliant on a phone line, it won’t work with this service, so you’ll have to keep your existing phone line to make landline calls.

Full Fibre broadband offers a faster and more stable connection than traditional fibre. Here’s an overview of our available broadband options:

  • Ultra: 35Mbps — Our most basic broadband option is typically suitable for streaming HD videos, casual gaming, or working from home. It should support a few devices connected simultaneously without significant slowdown.

  • Ultra Plus: 63Mbps — This gives you smoother video calls and you can use more devices in your home without impacting your performance.

  • Full Fibre 100: 100Mbps — Full Fibre 100 can support HD streams in 4K, competitive online gaming, or multiple devices running heavy internet usage at the same time.

  • Full Fibre 500: 500Mbps — With Full Fibre 500Mbps, you can seamlessly run a number of devices at heavy usage, or it’s ideal for professional needs like home-based servers or intensive online operations.

  • Full Fibre 900: 944Mbps — 944Mbps is perfect for the busiest households. You can stream 4K on multiple devices at the same time, with no slow downs.

It’s important to remember that the exact upload and download speed you’ll get depends on your location, usage, and number of running devices.

If you’ve never had Full Fibre broadband before in your home, you’ll need an engineer to come and install a special FTTP modem that connects to your router. We’ll arrange an installation date and time for you, which you can track in the UW app.

Here’s a run-through of what will happen:

  1. You’ll agree on how to get the connection into your home with the engineer.

  2. The engineer will drill a hole from the outside of the property for the Full Fibre cable.

  3. The engineer will install a junction box on the outside wall and run the Full Fibre cable.

  4. Once the cable is fed through the wall, the engineer will install an Optical Network Terminal, also known as an ONT box. This is where your router will connect.

Once your ONT box is installed, you’ll be ready to set up your Full Fibre router and access the internet.
